yer bootstraps . . . .

So there’s been a bit flack about this woman’s post. And I’m finding it curious, the flack that is. She posted this big long response to an article that upset her– and maybe she’s whiny, and maybe she’s mental, maybe she’s whatever (and she certainly appears to be republican, which earns her a big zero in my book, lol).

I think what I’m trying to say is this. Lately I’ve been noticing a lot of posts where the writer will post a pre-emptive defense against anything they perceive to be attackable within the post. Like they are expecting to be attacked if they are fat and admit they ate junk food, or they expect to be attacked if their beloved fathers uncles brother Mort smoked and got cancer, etc, etc, etc. And then this woman writes her little thing, and she is attacked. I’m seeing a lot of “Shut the f*ck up, you whiny so-and-so, you did it to yourself!”. And I guess it’s got me wondering about compassion again. Because it seems like a lot of people don’t have any, and a lot of people don’t expect to get any. Naturally, I want to tie it all back to the evils of capitalism (*insert defense of attackable statement here*).

Kinder, gentler, my *ss. Never gonna happen. And it troubles me.

Yes, we are masters of our own domain. Yes, we have the power to change our lives, and a positive attitude will make all the difference in the world. Our country is all about “anything is possible”. But is a person inherently bad/whiny/mental if they forget those facts sometimes? Do you only get the “worthy-person” points if you can be perfectly positive 100% of the time?

I have to confess that my thoughts aren’t very clear this morning. But maybe you get it anyway.
