Ok, Ok, I’ll update . . .

Spent the week in Mattituck, NY–way out on the north fork of Long Island, visiting the mother-in-law. It went surprisingly well, considering the family issues that have cropped up recently. In fact, it went so well that she desperately wants us to come back tomorrow and she will put the dogs up in a doggie spa!?! Eh, it’s her money . . .

Left the MIL’s house friday afternoon with a 1/4 tank of gas, planning to hit Starbucks and the gas station closer to NYC. Ran into horrible, horrible traffic. Decided to turn on the radio to see if anything was causing this back up, and Lo! it was the biggest blackout in US history. Realized our little plan for hitting the gas station and the ATM was not going to work. Drove the hour and a half back to the MIL’s house, managed to make dinner and coffee on the grill, showed Big Kid what the sky looked like with no street & city lights to dilute the view. Called the lovely and wonderful housesitter who very sweetly agreed to stay one more night and watch the critters, despite her needing to get home and pack for her own vacation.

Woke up the next morning and the lights were on. Yay! Got on the road by 9:30, and promptly spent the next 8 hours driving the 3.5 hour trip home. Apparently most of NYC decided they may as well head to the beach early, since the electricity wasn’t on yet in the city.

I’m still tired.

But we got home and the house looked great, all my fuzzy & feathered friends were happy, and the bed was comfy.

And I have no urge to drive back up there. But DH will be working for QVC again, so who knows when we’ll get another chance. So I guess we’ll do it . . .
