I do not think that word means what you think it means
Thursday, December 6th, 2007I have to admit, there are plenty of situations where I think it’s kind-of cruel to make fun of someone’s lack of mastery with the english language. However, this is one of those times where it’s just so completely off that I think I’m going to explode if I don’t share it. So here goes.
Set up: I am currently fostering 8 cats and a dog (what can I say, this is what happens when my biological clock starts ticking again). We have found Craig’s List to be a great tool for finding homes. So my friend posted an ad on my behalf, and this was one of the responses:
We are a fun loving family who need the love only a felony can give. The adoption is not a problem at all you have to beautiful cats we ever seen my children loves the pic of the girls. please think of us…
And then at the bottom of the email are 4 pictures of her kids. I have to admit, my first thought was that she wanted me to adopt *them*. But then I decided I must be wrong and re-read it, at which point I got so flabbergasted by her use of the word ‘felony’. I don’t even know what she meant to say . . . felines? And then there’s no name of signature in closing. I’m assuming she wants me to consider them as possible adopters, but it could almost be read to say she just wants me to think of her kids as love the pictures of the cats. And I guess she means the adoption FEE is not a problem at all (except little does she know that it cost me $80 to get them shots & spayed, which is considerably more than the two-for-one, $6 fee the shelter has going).
I’m just . . . flabbergasted. Utterly.
